LaserWorks V8 is a Windows-based job preparation and machine-control application for laser cutters and engravers, most commonly used with machines that have Ruida-style controllers. It combines basic design and layout tools with device settings so you can prepare a project and send it directly to the laser.

Key capabilities:

  • Import common vector and image formats (e.g., DXF, AI/PLT, BMP, JPG, PNG)
  • Layer-based workflow: assign colors to layers, then set speed, power, frequency, passes, and order per layer
  • Vector cutting and raster engraving in a single job, with path optimization and optional kerf compensation, lead-in/out, corner power, and overscan
  • Image processing for engraving (dithering and halftone), plus basic text, shape, node-editing, array/step-and-repeat, and simple nesting
  • Device control features such as framing, origin management, simulation/preview, air assist toggles, and Z/rotary attachment support (where supported by the controller)
  • Connect over USB/Ethernet or export jobs to a USB drive; manage and back up controller parameters and material presets

Notes:

  • Designed for Windows; there is no native macOS version
  • Feature availability can vary by machine firmware and vendor-specific builds
